World-class jazz drummer, singer, and bandleader who has shared the stage with the music's heavyweights for four decades — and who teaches the next generation of drummers.
Peppe Merolla started performing at age five, touring theatres and festivals across Italy, Canada, and the United States with his parents, the singers and actors Tina Barone and Gino Morelli. He trained at the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples and studied jazz under drummer Walter Scotti.
Beyond the kit he is a singer, trumpet player, and actor — he sang the soundtrack to the film Scugnizzi, which won an Italian award at the Venice Film Festival. Since 1996 he has been based in the United States, today calling Las Vegas home, where he splits his time between performing and teaching.
A bandleader and an in-demand sideman, Peppe has recorded and performed with some of the most respected names in jazz — from Jazz Messengers alumni to Italy's leading voices.
Online and in-person drum lessons for players who want to move past technique and actually make music on the kit. Author of the instructional title For Serious Drummers Only, Vol. 1 — recommended by Joe Morello, Dave Black, and Peter Donald.
